Description

  • Architect and own robust, performant backend systems that can scale with a growing enterprise customer base.
  • Lead projects end to end, including scoping, architecture, build, and rollout, within a small autonomous team.
  • Ship AI-powered product features using agentic coding workflows and LLM integrations.
  • Identify and drive cross-team technical initiatives that strengthen Workera’s AI-first engineering organization.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues across the full stack.
  • Contribute to frontend work in Phoenix and React when needed.
  • Collaborate with product, design, and engineering teammates in an async, cross-functional environment.
  • Use AI tools and automation as part of daily development workflows and engineering operations.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, with strong backend specialization in a SaaS or startup environment.
  • Practical experience building scalable backend systems, ideally with Elixir/Phoenix/PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with Go, Erlang, or Clojure is also considered.
  • Proven ability to learn new technologies quickly, especially if you do not already have Elixir experience.
  • Deep experience delivering platform-critical backend projects where robustness, performance, and troubleshooting matter.
  • Day-to-day use of AI tools such as Claude Code or equivalent; experience building user-facing GenAI features is a bonus.
  • Strong user and customer orientation with the ability to optimize user flows, not just code.
  • Willingness and ability to contribute on the frontend with Phoenix and React when needed.
  • 2+ years of experience working with a fully remote, async team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Comfort working in an AI-first environment with regular experimentation and intelligent automation.
  • Strong systems thinking and the ability to connect backend work to broader platform and enterprise customer needs.
  • Must be located in the United Kingdom, Ireland, or the Netherlands.
  • Ability to overlap with the team for most of the day while choosing flexible working hours.
