Description

  • Design, build, and operate distributed backend systems for the recommendations pipeline and AI workflow execution engine.
  • Own and improve the infrastructure for the AI workflow platform on AWS and Kubernetes.
  • Strengthen failure handling through eventing, streaming, retries, backpressure, and recovery.
  • Reduce single points of failure and share operational and on-call ownership across critical systems.
  • Design service and API boundaries and build MongoDB data models and queries that support recommendations.
  • Work with AI tooling to build reliable systems on top of non-deterministic, LLM-backed components.
  • Partner with product engineers, PMs, and designers to deliver end-to-end features and system improvements.
  • Raise the quality bar through tested, observable, maintainable code and thoughtful design docs.
  • Mentor engineers on backend and reliability practices.
  • Help shift the team toward more resilient distributed systems.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent experience.
  • Business-level fluency in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
  • 5+ years of experience building and operating backend systems in production, ideally in scalable multi-tenant SaaS.
  • Strong experience with distributed systems, including concurrency, asynchronous processing, queues or streaming, and failure-aware design.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript/Node.js.
  • Experience modeling data in MongoDB or a comparable database.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and observability tools such as metrics, logging, and tracing.
  • Experience with workflow or orchestration engines such as n8n, Temporal, or Airflow is a plus.
  • Experience building or operating LLM-backed or agentic systems in production is a plus.
  • Track record of improving a service from flaky to highly reliable is a plus.
