Description

  • Build fraud and abuse detection systems, including rules engines, anomaly detection, and behavioral signals.
  • Investigate fraud spikes and emerging abuse patterns, identify root causes, and ship fixes.
  • Partner with the payments team to embed fraud controls into payment flows.
  • Develop protections against automated fake signups, rate-limit evasion, token farming, and API key abuse.
  • Build detection and user friction to prevent credential stuffing, session hijacking, and account-sharing rings.
  • Select and integrate tooling for the fraud and abuse prevention stack.
  • Tune detection thresholds, measure impact, and reduce false positives for legitimate users.
  • Work across TypeScript, Rust, and Python systems as needed.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience with strong security fundamentals.
  • Ability to think adversarially and build systems resistant to abuse.
  • Proficiency working across TypeScript, Rust, and Python.
  • Ability to work independently and define a new fraud and abuse prevention function amid ambiguity.
  • Pragmatic approach to evaluating and selecting fraud, abuse, and security tooling.
  • Hands-on incident response mindset and ability to investigate issues without a runbook.
  • Experience with payment fraud detection, chargeback management, or billing abuse (preferred).
  • Familiarity with Cloudflare, WAF rules, bot management, or similar edge-layer controls (preferred).
  • Experience building trust and safety or fraud detection systems for a consumer-facing platform (preferred).
  • Experience with ML-based anomaly detection or behavioral analytics (preferred).
