Description

  • Develop and implement communications and media strategies across digital, print, multimedia, and earned media channels to support campaign goals.
  • Convene quarterly strategy meetings to prioritize activities, analyses, and visibility opportunities.
  • Scope, manage, and help deliver communications projects with creative, digital, editorial, and program teams.
  • Co-create messaging and other campaign communications documents with internal stakeholders.
  • Serve as the primary communications liaison for campaign and program staff.
  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists and pitch UCS stories to print, radio, TV, and podcast outlets.
  • Respond promptly to interview requests and identify news cycle opportunities for UCS issues and experts.
  • Write, edit, distribute, and maintain media materials, web content, and other communications assets.
  • Review copy for social media posts, video scripts, and related creative projects.
  • Track press hits and communications impact, and contribute to metrics reporting for internal stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of experience in content creation, media outreach, and communications strategy across multiple channels.
  • Strong writing, editing, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Superior project management and collaboration skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, problem-solving, mentoring, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work with staff at all levels and represent the organization externally.
  • Proficiency in a PC/Windows environment, especially MS Word.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms such as Drupal and WordPress is preferred.
  • Familiarity with media outreach platforms such as Cision is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics and SEO best practices is preferred.
  • Communications experience at a nonprofit or advocacy organization is preferred.
  • Must be able to work regular office hours that accommodate the East Coast media market, with occasional nights, weekends, on-call periods, and 2-5 domestic overnight trips per year.
  • Must be able to remain stationary for long periods and continuously operate a computer using a mouse and keyboard.
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with internal staff and external constituents.

Benefits

  • Full-time remote position with EST working hours.
  • Salary of $97,090 for candidates who meet all position requirements.
  • 12% salary differential for California residents.
