Description

  • Run technical discovery, POCs, and demos for the team’s largest and most competitive deals.
  • Take escalations on technical and competitive objections that the team cannot resolve.
  • Coach three Sales Engineers through regular 1:1s, call reviews, and development plans.
  • Define and document the Sales Engineering process, including engagement criteria, POC requirements, discovery standards, and handoff expectations.
  • Own the accuracy of pre-sale commitments so Solutions Architecture can successfully build what is promised.
  • Hire and ramp Sales Engineers as the team grows.
  • Improve conversion through the technical evaluation stage across the team.
  • Reduce cycle times on Sales Engineering-supported deals.
  • Lead roughly half of your time in the field and half in team leadership.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in sales engineering, solutions consulting, or a similar technical pre-sales role.
  • Experience coaching or mentoring other Sales Engineers.
  • A track record of building durable processes for POCs, discovery standards, handoffs, and review cadences.
  • Working SQL fluency.
  • Hands-on experience with marketing attribution, including pixel-based, multi-touch, or MMM.
  • Comfort telling customers when something has not been built and telling reps when a deal is weaker than they believe.
  • Based in the New York City area.
  • E-commerce or DTC background, including familiarity with MER, CAC, contribution margin, and payback (nice to have).
  • Competitive experience (preferred).
  • Deep Shopify ecosystem experience, including headless or non-Shopify implementations (preferred).
  • Formal people-management experience (nice to have).
