Description

  • Own the technical vision and execution for a portfolio of proof-of-concepts from initial research through working prototype.
  • Lead a small engineering team by setting direction, reviewing work, growing people, and keeping the group focused and motivated.
  • Run lightweight research to scope problems, survey the landscape, form hypotheses, and define what a successful prototype must prove.
  • Translate fuzzy ideas into concrete plans with clear milestones and execute against them.
  • Build fullstack solutions including backend services, frontends, data pipelines, and supporting integration layers.
  • Use AI tooling to accelerate development and build products that embed LLMs, agents, retrieval, and related techniques where valuable.
  • Make pragmatic build-vs-buy and scope decisions that balance speed with the parts that need to be solid.
  • Partner with product, design, and leadership to decide which prototypes should graduate into products.
  • Write the first prototype yourself while also coaching teammates through theirs.

Requirements

  • Proven technical leadership experience leading a team or owning a major workstream, setting technical direction, and shipping through others.
  • Strong fullstack engineering experience across backend and frontend in at least two of C#, Python, and JavaScript/TypeScript, with comfort picking up the third.
  • Hands-on experience building LLM-powered products, including prompting, RAG, agents, and evals.
  • Fluent with AI development tools and an AI-native way of working.
  • Self-directed and comfortable with ambiguity, able to define the problem and drive it to a result.
  • Cloud experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Enough DevOps experience to ship prototypes, including CI/CD, containers, deployment, and observability.
  • Working understanding of ETL/ELT, data warehouses, and lakehouse concepts is valued.
  • Hands-on data engineering depth is a bonus but not required.
  • Nice to have experience taking a 0→1 product or prototype to real users or market validation.
  • A standout specialty such as distributed systems, ML/AI, frontend architecture, or data engineering is a plus.
  • Background in a startup, R&D lab, or innovation team where speed and ownership were the norm is preferred.
  • Familiarity with experiment design, rapid user testing, or other low-cost validation methods is a plus.
