Description

  • Lead end-to-end design for platform-level Point of Sale experiences from discovery through polished execution.
  • Define how operational workflows such as order taking, modifications, payments, and table management should work across terminal and handheld surfaces.
  • Apply a systems mindset to identify patterns, build scalable solutions, and evolve the Toast design system.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to shape roadmap direction, surface design risks, and advocate for users in prioritization decisions.
  • Design for the realities of fast-paced, hardware-constrained restaurant service and establish standards for reliable front-of-house software.
  • Use prototypes, systems thinking, and clear storytelling to drive alignment with senior cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Mentor and develop designers on the team to raise the quality of process, craft, and judgment.
  • Champion the server and front-of-house perspective across the organization, keeping speed, clarity, and reliability as core principles.
  • Integrate emerging AI-first tools and methods into your design practice and help the broader team adopt them.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in product design with progression from individual execution to owning product strategy and influencing org-wide design direction.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates mastery of complex, real-world systems with strong attention to detail, edge cases, and scalability.
  • A track record of driving measurable design impact and influencing outcomes, not just shipping deliverables.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership skills with the ability to build trust and influence without authority.
  • Ability to operate across multiple levels, shaping strategy while also handling detailed execution.
  • Deep instincts for designing speed and reliability into products, especially for time-sensitive front-of-house workflows.
  • An AI-first design approach for creating conceptual prototypes quickly.
  • Strong visual design skills for polishing intuitive end-to-end journeys across multiple surfaces and contexts.
  • Experience mentoring other designers and acting as a force multiplier for team quality.
  • A portfolio link must be included with the application.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $159,000-$254,000 USD for Zone A, $138,000-$221,000 USD for Zone B, or $125,000-$200,000 USD for Zone C.
