Description

  • Administer, monitor, and maintain relational databases in production and development environments.
  • Own day-to-day database operations, including availability, backups, and performance.
  • Perform routine database tasks such as backup and recovery, schema changes, patching, upgrades, and security hardening.
  • Support incident response, root cause analysis, and recovery for database-related issues.
  • Contribute to automation, configuration management, modernization, and monitoring efforts.
  • Work with systems infrastructure and storage teams to improve database reliability and performance.
  • Collaborate with OS and networking teams to understand infrastructure dependencies affecting database systems.
  • Use Linux command-line and systems knowledge to troubleshoot and improve database processes.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience with at least one of PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle, with PostgreSQL strongly preferred.
  • Solid grasp of daily DBA operations, including backups, replication, security, user management, and logging.
  • At least basic experience with performance tuning; medium-level experience is strongly preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of Linux systems, including filesystem layout, memory and disk utilization, and OS-level tools.
  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible and other automation or deployment tools.
  • Experience working with both on-premises and cloud configurations.
  • Experience with database-specific monitoring.
  • Exposure to containerized environments such as Docker, Podman, or Kubernetes for database workloads (preferred).
  • Familiarity with Ceph RBD or similar distributed storage systems (preferred).
  • Understanding of modern big data formats or engines such as Hadoop, Parquet, or RocksDB (preferred).
  • Linux networking fundamentals, including troubleshooting connections, ports, and interfaces (preferred).
  • Experience with cloud database offerings such as AWS RDS, Azure Database, or GCP Cloud SQL (preferred).
  • Familiarity with application development or scripting in Bash, Java, or Python for automating database installation and configuration (preferred).
  • Experience with general monitoring and alerting (preferred).
