Description

  • Drive applied research and technical direction for retrieval and ranking systems.
  • Design and evolve multi-stage retrieval architectures, including query understanding, rewriting, retrieval, reranking, and iterative retrieval.
  • Train ranking and retrieval models for agent-driven workflows under real-world latency, reliability, and scale constraints.
  • Lead experimentation with embeddings, sparse and hybrid retrieval, reranking, and context compression, and deploy successful approaches to production.
  • Develop methods to ground LLMs in real-time web data using trust, quality, and freshness signals.
  • Partner with the evaluation team to define metrics for agentic search systems.
  • Analyze relevance, latency, and cost trade-offs with engineering teams to operate systems at web scale.
  • Mentor researchers and engineers and raise the team’s technical standards.
  • Own a key area of the search stack, such as ranking or iterative retrieval, during the first year.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in applied AI, machine learning, or software engineering.
  • Proven record of shipping ML or AI systems to production at scale.
  • Deep experience in search, retrieval, ranking, or RAG-based assistants.
  • Strong understanding of modern deep learning, particularly transformers and embeddings.
  • Experience building LLM-integrated or knowledge-intensive systems.
  • Experience designing evaluation frameworks and metrics for ML systems.
  • Strong Python programming skills.
  • Top-tier publications in venues such as ICLR, ICML, NeurIPS, AAAI, EMNLP, or ACL.
  • Ability to work with high ownership and autonomy in a fast-moving, product-driven environment.
  • Background in agentic AI systems, including agents, tool use, or autonomous workflows (preferred).
  • Experience with RL post-training for LLMs or VLMs (preferred).
