Description

  • Design, build, and maintain the core infrastructure that enables asynchronous processing of financial data and transactions across Stripe.
  • Guide the platform’s asynchronous execution capabilities to make asynchronous systems easy to build, resilient, and scalable.
  • Ensure a high-quality developer experience by driving ergonomic tooling, APIs, and platform improvements for engineers using the system.
  • Collaborate and liaise with product and engineering teams that use the infrastructure to gather requirements and ensure the platform meets their needs.
  • Debug production issues across services and levels of the stack and participate in an on-call pager rotation.
  • Plan for the growth of Stripe’s asynchronous infrastructure, including capacity, scalability, and reliability planning.
  • Analyze existing software for performance optimizations and design quality-assurance testing strategies.
  • Mentor engineers, review code, and lead cross-team initiatives; manage projects end-to-end including measuring impact and creating maintenance and reliability plans.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of engineering experience or equivalent combined work experience reflecting domain expertise.
  • Proven experience leading initiatives spanning multiple teams and influencing technical roadmap planning and execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate across multiple teams and stakeholders to drive business outcomes.
  • Experience mentoring and investing in the development of engineers and peers.
  • Experience debugging production systems and participating in on-call rotations.
  • Demonstrated expertise with workflow orchestration systems such as Temporal or Cadence (preferred).
  • Expertise in tackling complex distributed systems and infrastructure challenges at scale (preferred).
  • Deep familiarity with API design for large-scale distributed systems and a user-centric approach to productizing infrastructure (preferred).
