Description

  • Own architecture, hosting, infrastructure strategy, integrations, and long-term platform direction across the web ecosystem.
  • Build, review, debug, and contribute code alongside engineering teams.
  • Own deployment, release, CI/CD, automation, plugin updates, dependency management, and security remediation.
  • Establish engineering and QA standards in partnership with the SDET team.
  • Lead technical discovery and estimation, communicating dependencies, risks, sequencing, and technical context to Product.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations and participate in product discovery and prioritization discussions.
  • Improve engineering-work triage, allocation, and sequencing across the workstream.
  • Mentor and develop engineers while strengthening documentation, knowledge sharing, and coverage.
  • Develop a 12–24 month strategy for consolidating or migrating WordPress and Drupal sites.
  • Extend technical leadership across additional workstreams and technology stacks over time.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including technical lead, staff engineer, or engineering lead experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain hands-on while leading engineers; this is not primarily a management role.
  • Experience architecting and applying systems thinking across an ecosystem of applications.
  • Experience mentoring engineers, including senior individual contributors, and directly managing engineers, performance expectations, and reviews.
  • Deep WordPress experience with custom themes and plugins, Gutenberg, Advanced Custom Fields, WP-CLI, and multisite portfolios.
  • Deep Drupal experience with Drupal 10+, custom modules and themes, entity and configuration management, Views, Drush, Composer, and headless or decoupled implementations using JSON:API or GraphQL.
  • Strong modern PHP, object-oriented design, Composer, SQL, and query-performance experience.
  • Front-end JavaScript experience with Next.js, React, or comparable frameworks and modern build tooling.
  • Experience owning production hosting, deployment pipelines, environment configuration, CI/CD, DevOps, infrastructure as code, containers, secrets management, monitoring, logging, and alerting.
  • Knowledge of SSL certificates, DNS, and web protocols; Upsun, AWS, Cloudflare/CDN, site consolidation, WCAG 2.2 AA, campaign-team collaboration, or AI-enabled development experience preferred.
