Description

  • Analyze proposed policy changes and report findings, including benefits and drawbacks, to team members.
  • Collect and share data and other relevant information to support legislative testimony, briefings, public speaking, events, and media appearances.
  • Research and summarize state and federal laws and legislation to support policy research and implementation efforts.
  • Write commentary and blog posts for Reason.org and other outlets.
  • Support policy research and related team projects as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Occasionally travel for work when required.

Requirements

  • Cover letter required, detailing alignment with Reason’s mission, interest in the position, and relevant qualifications.
  • Writing sample required with the application.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and strong resourcefulness.
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-experts.
  • Working knowledge of state legislative processes and practices.
  • Familiarity with policy work, especially criminal justice or drug policy, is desirable.
  • Ability to work effectively across the political aisle with diverse stakeholders and interests.
  • Curiosity, self-motivation, and willingness to learn new topics and tackle difficult problems.
  • High level of organization, attention to detail, and integrity.
  • Position is in-office in Los Angeles or Washington, DC, or virtual anywhere in the US.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $55,000 to $65,000 per year.
  • Remote work available anywhere in the US.
