Description

  • Own and uphold the design and research process, tooling, standards, and craft at Stack Overflow.
  • Lead the user experience strategy for how technologists discover and interact with knowledge.
  • Maintain high standards for design craft and research quality across all product surfaces.
  • Evolve the team’s AI-first design practice and support the pipeline from concept to production-ready code.
  • Run team rituals that improve quality and develop designers and researchers.
  • Coach designers and researchers in their career growth and leadership development.
  • Build a high-trust, feedback-driven culture with autonomy and accountability.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering leaders on product strategy and AI-first software development.
  • Advocate for users and customers at the leadership table and push back when their needs are not represented.
  • Build and maintain research infrastructure that drives product decisions.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of product design experience with a portfolio demonstrating exceptional design craft and end-to-end product thinking.
  • 4+ years leading and managing design and/or research teams at a product company.
  • Experience with B2B or enterprise products, ideally at an AI-native company or a company that has strongly pivoted to AI.
  • Developer tooling experience is a plus.
  • A track record of people management that is honest and trust-based.
  • Ability to support your team’s careers, workload, and recognition in addition to output.
  • Ability to stay grounded and effective in a high-pressure, fast-moving environment.
  • Fluency in how AI is changing product surfaces, including experience designing AI-native or AI-augmented products.
  • Comfort working at the intersection of design and code, including functional prototyping.
  • Exceptional UI and visual design judgment and the ability to hold the team accountable to a high level of craft.
  • Experience deploying research strategically and making findings visible and actionable across a product organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate design rationale and influence stakeholders.
