Description

  • Design and build systems for audiobook ingestion, transformation, and delivery at scale.
  • Develop and maintain backend services, APIs, and related operational or lightweight internal tools.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and designers to turn complex workflows into reliable systems.
  • Take operational ownership of the services you build and improve their reliability and performance.
  • Work across adjacent areas such as data pipelines, deployment infrastructure, and internal tooling as needed.
  • Author and review RFCs and contribute to technical decision-making across the Audiobooks ecosystem.
  • Make pragmatic, reversible technical decisions that align with the team’s operating principles.
  • Mentor peers and help foster an inclusive, psychologically safe engineering culture.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, ideally in backend systems and distributed architectures.
  • Strong proficiency with Spotify’s backend stack, especially Java, gRPC, and GCP.
  • Experience working with data systems or data-focused development.
  • Willingness to work across the stack, including backend, data, tooling, and infrastructure.
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguous, fast-paced environments and handle context switching well.
  • Commitment to clean, maintainable, testable code and operational excellence.
  • Curiosity about the audiobook domain and the broader business ecosystem.
  • Collaborative, humble, and growth-minded approach to teamwork and learning.
  • Based in or willing to work from London or Stockholm, with some in-person meetings and flexibility to work from home.
