Description

  • Lead, coach, and develop a multidisciplinary team of ML, data, and backend engineers.
  • Provide technical leadership on ML modeling strategy, system design, implementation, risks, and tradeoffs.
  • Represent the team’s technical direction with senior partners across product, personalization, insights, business, and music.
  • Enable engineers to own decisions while providing direction and resolving complex tradeoffs when needed.
  • Manage cross-functional requests and protect the team’s focus time.
  • Own prioritization, capacity management, operational health, and reliable delivery using lightweight processes.
  • Contribute hands-on to technical problem solving and engineering work when useful.
  • Help the team adopt AI in engineering workflows and ML systems.
  • Hire and onboard engineers while building resilient team capabilities and knowledge distribution.

Requirements

  • Experience managing engineers and developing technical individual contributors.
  • Strong machine learning background with expertise in modeling strategy and ML system design.
  • Ability to assess ML strategies, challenge assumptions, evaluate tradeoffs, and communicate technical direction clearly.
  • Experience navigating changing product and business priorities while creating clarity for engineering teams.
  • Ability to build trust with experienced engineers through autonomy, effective coaching, and appropriate involvement.
  • Experience managing substantial technical, product, and business dependencies with cross-functional partners.
  • Comfort with lightweight processes, calculated tradeoffs, iterative learning, and maintaining technical and operational standards.
  • Comfort using AI tools and a perspective on improving engineering effectiveness and ML-powered products.
  • Commitment to clear ownership, accountability, healthy disagreement, and inclusive collaboration.
  • Experience with data engineering and backend systems is a plus.
