Description

  • Develop, deploy, and iteratively improve automated welding systems for Raptor combustion chambers and nozzles, including manual and automated arc and beam welding processes.
  • Design and optimize automated weld paths, parameters, and sequences for complex regenerative cooling channel and nozzle geometries.
  • Implement weld process control with real-time monitoring of arc characteristics, temperature, seam tracking, and penetration using advanced sensors.
  • Build and maintain manufacturing data pipelines to support statistical process control, predictive analytics, machine learning, and defect reduction.
  • Develop fixture and material handling solutions for high-precision welding across a variety of forms and materials.
  • Drive continuous improvement in welding automation through Python scripting, PLC logic, and advanced process modeling to reduce cycle time and scrap rates.
  • Partner with propulsion design, materials, production, and supply chain teams to translate new designs into scalable processes and resolve nonconformances.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline.
  • 1+ years of experience with welding processes for complex metallic components.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and experience with industrial automation such as robotic welding systems, PLCs, or real-time controllers.
  • Demonstrated success deploying robotic welding, laser welding, or vision-guided welding systems in production environments.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment with aggressive schedules.
  • Ability to work well in an integrated, collaborative team environment with daily interactions with technicians, engineers, and managers.
  • Direct experience welding rocket engine chambers, nozzles, or regeneratively cooled hardware is preferred.
  • Expertise in welding high-performance alloys, including nickel and copper alloys and stainless steels, using GTAW, laser, or plasma processes is preferred.
  • Background in real-time weld monitoring, adaptive control, and closed-loop feedback systems is preferred.
  • Experience with offline robot programming, weld simulation software, and integrating welding cells into larger manufacturing lines is preferred.
  • Familiarity with non-destructive evaluation methods tied to welding, such as ultrasonic, X-ray, CT, or thermography, is preferred.
  • Knowledge of statistical process control, GD&T, and data-driven methods for weld quality prediction is preferred.
  • Must be able to stand for long durations, at least 8 hours, and work directly with hardware on the floor.
  • Must be comfortable stooping, bending, and standing.
  • Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
  • Must be available for 10% travel in support of launch and test hardware.
  • Must have flexibility in working hours to match production and launch cadence.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or otherwise eligible for the required U.S. Department of State authorizations under ITAR.

Benefits

  • Manufacturing Engineer Level I base salary of $100,000 to $115,000 per year.
  • Manufacturing Engineer Level II base salary of $110,000 to $135,000 per year.
  • Potential long-term incentives in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards.
  • Potential discretionary bonuses.
  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan with the ability to buy additional stock at a discount.
  • Comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage.
  • 401(k) retirement plan, plus short- and long-term disability insurance and life insurance.
  • Paid parental leave, paid vacation accrual of 3 weeks, and 10 or more paid holidays per year.
