Description

  • Serve as the instrumentation and test expert on the flight hardware development team.
  • Develop detailed test plans and test campaigns to validate flight hardware.
  • Assist with anomaly and failure investigations for hardware issues.
  • Develop requirements for new test systems used to test and validate flight hardware.
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and software engineers to conceptualize and develop new test systems.
  • Train personnel on the processes and operations of complex test systems.
  • Ensure all testing is conducted in compliance with safety protocols at all times.
  • Support testing of propulsion components such as high-pressure fluid systems, valves, turbomachinery, and injectors for Starship’s Raptor engines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in physics or an engineering discipline.
  • 1+ years of experience working on mechanical, fluid, or electrical systems; internships and project teams qualify.
  • Familiarity with mechanical, drivetrain, and/or electrical engineering concepts.
  • Experience in a test-focused role.
  • Experience in a product ownership role.
  • Experience working with mechanical, drivetrain, and electrical measurement devices.
  • Experience working with complex mechanical and/or electrical systems and ability to read drawings and system diagrams.
  • Strong mathematical, computer, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with propulsion systems, such as high-pressure fluids, cryogenics, or combustion testing.
  • Able to work flexible hours and provide occasional weekend support as needed.
  • Able to stoop, bend, crawl, and maneuver in tight spaces as needed.
  • Must meet ITAR export-control eligibility requirements as a U.S. citizen/national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or otherwise eligible for required State Department authorization.

  • Base salary range of $100,000 to $115,000 per year for Level 1, or $110,000 to $135,000 per year for Level 2.
