Description

  • Own and execute industrial automation projects in collaboration with engineers, specialists, and technicians across multiple groups.
  • Develop and upgrade data acquisition and control systems.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to controls technicians and other engineering teams.
  • Lead technicians and contractors effectively on project work.
  • Commission new automation hardware and integrated systems.
  • Drive continuous improvements to team processes, quality, build speed, maintenance needs, kitting, and team communication.
  • Prioritize daily work and manage risk on current and upcoming projects.
  • Draft and redline electrical and fluids schematics.
  • Coordinate between Tooling Engineering and Automation & Controls during design and build phases for hardware mounting and cable management.
  • Program PLCs and HMIs according to engineering designs.
  • Analyze system data to evaluate the function of electrical systems.
  • Assist with the design and analysis of experiments to evaluate test articles.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  • 1+ years of experience in a controls technician or specialist role.
  • Occupational trade school qualification in an instrumentation or electrical-based field preferred.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, NFPA 79, and UL508A codes preferred.
  • Experience programming PLCs and HMIs preferred.
  • Ability to design, implement, and troubleshoot data acquisition and control hardware preferred.
  • Experience designing and installing instrumentation and control systems in hazardous areas, including Class I Division 1 and Division 2 or IEC equivalence, preferred.
  • Experience with PCB design, verification, or validation preferred.
  • Experience tuning PID controllers preferred.
  • Experience with electrical power distribution and industrial bus protocols such as Modbus, Profinet, and EtherNet/IP preferred.
  • Exposure to C/C++, Python, JavaScript, and Linux-based operating systems preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a high-paced, ambiguous environment preferred.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed.
  • Occasional travel to other SpaceX or third-party facilities, up to 25%.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including standing, kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, and working at elevated heights up to 500 feet.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted, and in some cases up to 50 lbs unassisted.
  • Ability to work in harsh environmental conditions, including heat, cold, rain, noise, fumes, odors, and flashing lights.
  • Ability to complete a pre-employment questionnaire and/or physical, including possible medical history review.
  • Must meet ITAR requirements as a U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or otherwise eligible for required U.S. Department of State authorization.
