Description

Recruit, onboard, and mentor an underwriting team aligned with SoFi’s values and performance expectations.
Manage the underwriting lifecycle across Conventional, Government, Jumbo, Portfolio, and Non-QM loan products.
Set underwriting authority levels and personally review or approve complex and high-exposure cases.
Coach the team to meet production and quality goals while maintaining speed and accuracy.
Partner with product and engineering teams to influence the technology roadmap and improve underwriting tools.
Manage digital tools that automate and streamline the underwriting process.
Build strong partnerships with Sales, Credit, Risk, and Operations to improve workflows and remove bottlenecks.
Monitor Quality Control reports, identify error trends, and implement corrective action plans.
Ensure underwriting decisions comply with GSE and investor requirements.

Requirements

8+ years of mortgage underwriting experience.
5+ years of experience leading mortgage underwriting teams.
Experience underwriting jumbo, high net worth, and complex credits with relevant approval authority.
Knowledge of federal, state, and FDIC real estate regulations and statutes.
Comprehensive knowledge of mortgage products, services, and industry trends.
Excellent written, verbal, active listening, and interpersonal communication skills.
Strong leadership and management skills to guide an experienced underwriting team.
Critical decision-making skills and sound judgment.
Technical proficiency with Encompass and Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize responsibilities.
Experience in a role requiring diplomacy when directing production staff.
