Description

  • Support and maintain data ingestion pipelines from NHS systems, practice management systems, and laboratory or equipment sources using APIs and screen-scraping.
  • Own and support the BigQuery ingestion layer and downstream SQL Server and SQL Azure processing used for dentist pay calculations.
  • Investigate and resolve data ingestion issues while improving platform observability and monitoring.
  • Handle enterprise customer support requests and tactical enhancement requests for the existing platform.
  • Work across a highly distributed, brownfield, heavily customised environment with multiple bespoke customer deployments.
  • Review and occasionally adjust SQL-driven commands used by the legacy on-premises Delphi connector.
  • Contribute to process improvements, including introducing source control through GitHub Enterprise and improving CI/CD practices with Azure DevOps.
  • Maintain the existing .NET web application with light-touch changes.
  • Trace and resolve complex issues across stored procedures, CTEs, SQL Server business logic, and distributed systems.
  • Collaborate within a Kanban team to solve ambiguous production problems and deliver careful production changes.

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience in data engineering, including data pipelines and ingestion.
  • Experience with GCP BigQuery, Airflow, and Cloud Composer; equivalent large-scale data pipeline experience on another cloud platform may also be considered.
  • 5+ years’ experience with SQL Server and T-SQL, including stored procedures, CTEs, and database business logic.
  • 2+ years’ experience with GCP tooling, specifically BigQuery, Airflow, and Cloud Composer; Azure Data Factory or a similar data integration platform may be considered as an alternative.
  • 2+ years’ experience with Azure, including SQL Azure, Azure Functions, and Azure DevOps; equivalent AWS or GCP hosting experience may also be considered.
  • Experience with .NET / C# for maintaining and supporting existing applications.
  • Experience working with Delphi, particularly in legacy application environments.
  • Ability to work independently through ambiguity in a highly data-focused engineering role.
  • Experience working in complex, heavily customised, or brownfield environments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and comfort collaborating within a Kanban team.
