Description

  • Define what to build and how to build it from the engineering side.
  • Own the technical direction for orchestrating concurrent, real-time driver interactions.
  • Build and ship new AI-powered products from zero to one.
  • Design systems that coordinate across backend and edge boundaries.
  • Make architectural tradeoffs as requirements evolve.
  • Establish patterns for reliability, observability, and explainability in real-time systems.
  • Review designs, unblock decisions, and mentor firmware engineers.
  • Bring in outside ideas and practices for full-stack and AI-assisted development.
  • Champion Samsara’s cultural principles as the team scales.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including ownership of products from concept through production.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong programming fundamentals in Golang, Python, or similar languages.
  • Experience building products on top of LLMs or AI agent platforms.
  • Experience designing reliable distributed backend systems for multi-step, asynchronous workflows.
  • Experience designing backend systems for edge, embedded, or resource-constrained clients.
  • Experience with AI safety and quality practices, including validating outputs, structured responses, retries/fallbacks, and monitoring.
  • Experience mentoring engineers into unfamiliar technical domains.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence technical direction without formal authority.
  • Located in and authorized to work in the United States or Canada, with fully remote work eligibility.
  • Preferred: Experience building zero-to-one products in fast-moving, high-autonomy environments.
  • Preferred: Experience building scheduling or arbitration systems.
  • Preferred: Experience designing systems that combine structured and open-ended signal collection for product decisions.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with agent orchestration frameworks or patterns.
