Description

  • Lead legal counseling for HRIS and AI products end to end, including AI impact assessments, model cards, and risk controls in partnership with Privacy and Security.
  • Draft and negotiate product terms and AI-specific clauses covering data and metadata use, output and IP ownership, acceptable use, transparency, and disclaimers.
  • Embed risk-based legal review into product development workflows and help product, design, and engineering teams translate legal rules into actionable requirements.
  • Monitor emerging AI and technology regulations across jurisdictions and convert regulatory changes into practical guidance for the business.
  • Partner with Privacy and Security on DPIAs, TIAs, incident response, and vendor or LLM diligence.
  • Manage external counsel on complex, multi-jurisdictional issues and drive practical outcomes.
  • Deliver trainings, office hours, and other targeted legal enablement for internal stakeholders.
  • Help stand up and maintain core product AI governance, including model inventory, risk classification, human oversight, bias testing, and incident response alignment.

Requirements

  • Qualified lawyer with extensive product counseling experience; multiple bars are a plus.
  • Product counsel experience in technology, with prior HR-tech exposure such as EOR, PEO, HRIS, or payroll.
  • Experience advising at scale across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Strong command of emerging AI frameworks such as the EU AI Act, the UK approach, U.S. state and federal developments, and Canada AIDA.
  • Understanding of how AI frameworks interact with GDPR, CCPA, and employment transparency rules.
  • In-house legal experience is preferred.
  • Experience in a fast-paced startup is preferred.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • Tech-savvy and comfortable using Slack, Juro, Notion, Google Drive, or equivalent tools.
  • Experience working remotely is a plus.
  • Experience working on AI/ML legal and compliance issues is a plus.
  • Experience shipping at least one AI feature in production with the accompanying legal or governance framework is a plus.
