Description

  • Manage a small product team of 3-5 engineers across backend and frontend work.
  • Spend about 30% of the role on management while actively contributing to product development the rest of the time.
  • Participate in hiring for the team and support peers in their hiring processes.
  • Own onboarding for new engineers joining the team.
  • Manage team dynamics and act as the spokesperson for the team.
  • Provide continuous, constructive feedback, coaching, and guidance to direct reports.
  • Support the growth and career development of each direct report.
  • Redesign engineering delivery so autonomous agents are the default execution layer.
  • Propose and operationalize end-to-end agentic workflows from specification through verification.
  • Build reusable agentic workflows and primitives, and use verification loops to ensure quality, security, reliability, and scalability.

Requirements

  • Managed an engineering team of at least 2 people.
  • Extensive experience with backend development using Elixir/Phoenix, Ruby, or functional programming.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals with a track record of shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
  • Practical experience designing or adopting agentic or automation workflows, or comparable systems, and improving them through iteration.
  • Ability to think in systems: define specs clearly, break down plans, instrument verification, and close the loop on quality.
  • Solid communication skills.
  • Solid knowledge of engineering and development principles and best practices.
  • Proven organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • A kind, people-first approach with a focus on efficient processes.
  • Ability to inspire others, instill confidence, and understand team dynamics.
  • Commitment to Remote’s values and an intentional focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Demonstrates strong automation and AI capabilities and AI fluency.
  • Experience in backend engineering is required; frontend experience is part of the team context but not explicitly required.
