Description

  • Develop high-quality development and production tooling and automation solutions for the Terran vehicle and Aeon engine programs.
  • Translate top-level requirements and concepts into functional delivered equipment.
  • Design tooling and factory automation equipment for manufacturing support.
  • Apply mechanical design and analysis across multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Create tooling drawing definitions using ASME Y14.5 and other drafting standards.
  • Solve a wide range of technical problems involving material handling, assembly fixtures, test fixtures, structural weldments, environmental chambers, and custom machines.
  • Collaborate closely with component designers, manufacturing engineers, and integration engineering to optimize safety, cost, quality, cycle time, delivery, reliability, life, and maintenance.
  • Manage tooling projects from vendor selection through fabrication, inspection, installation, and commissioning.
  • Support the buildout of a highly automated production facility.
  • Contribute to factory automation efforts across existing and future facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, or equivalent.
  • 6+ years of work or project experience designing, building, and commissioning tooling and fixtures for manufacturing, assembly, and test.
  • Experience using CAD and FEA-based analysis software, with NX and ANSYS Workbench preferred for structural applications.
  • Experience in full-cycle project completion.
  • Experience in strategic buildout and project management of tooling supporting production.
  • Strong expertise in design for manufacturability and design for assembly, including taking products from prototype design to production preferred.
  • Solid understanding of common manufacturing materials, GD&T, and tolerance/stack-up analysis preferred.
  • Solid understanding of common manufacturing processes and machines, including mills, lathes, welding, sheet-metal bending, lifting/rigging, assembly, and inspection preferred.
  • Experience with custom machine design, including motors, actuators, linear rails/actuators, pneumatics, and bearings preferred.
  • Ability to work on several different projects in a fast-paced environment with varying size and scale.
