Description

  • Lead the planning, design, and execution of spacecraft operations for the program’s first mission.
  • Own the end-to-end operations architecture for the spacecraft.
  • Work directly with multiple science and instrument teams to support mission operations.
  • Execute spacecraft operations to maximize science data collection within mission constraints.
  • Develop and automate operations to improve spacecraft capability and efficiency.
  • Build an operations system for a complex, multi-instrument science mission operating millions of kilometers away.
  • Make operational decisions under time pressure and with incomplete information.
  • Collaborate across engineering, science, and software disciplines on cross-subsystem operational impacts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in planetary science, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in planetary missions with demonstrated progression into increasing ownership.
  • Experience with scripting, such as Python, for data analysis or operational tasks.
  • Proficiency working in Linux/Unix environments.
  • Ability to reason through cross-subsystem interactions and operational implications.
  • Ability to make decisions under time pressure and with incomplete information.
  • Excellent communication skills across engineering, science, and software disciplines.
  • Experience with deep-space mission operations, including surface or orbital science campaigns, preferred.
  • Experience designing onboard autonomy, automated scheduling systems, or ground-based automation frameworks for flight operations, preferred.
  • Ability to work shift schedules and be on-call during critical mission phases.
  • Schedule flexibility as operational needs evolve.
  • Occasional travel of less than 10% to partner institutions and mission integration sites may be required.
