Description

  • Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounting, billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, trust accounting, collections, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, budget variance reports, and cash flow forecasts to support strategic decision-making.
  • Manage invoice preparation, payment plan tracking, accounts receivable aging, collection protocols, and resolution of billing disputes, chargebacks, and refund requests.
  • Identify financial risks, compliance issues, and process weaknesses, and support audits, tax preparation coordination, and reconciliations.
  • Supervise bookkeepers, billing specialists, payroll providers, and outsourced vendors, and serve as the internal subject matter expert for accounting and billing systems.
  • Analyze profitability by service, attorney, and marketing channel, track key metrics, and support pricing reviews and other leadership decisions.
  • Translate financial data into clear, practical insights for the Owner, CFO, and senior leadership team.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, compliant financial records that support firm operations and decision-making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably in a law firm, professional services firm, or other service-based business.
  • Strong understanding of general accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and month-end close.
  • Experience with billing systems, client payment plans, collections, and accounts receivable management.
  • Strong proficiency with accounting software, legal billing systems, Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, and financial reporting tools.
  • Ability to prepare accurate financial reports and explain them clearly to non-financial leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify financial risks, implement controls, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • High integrity, confidentiality, discretion, and professional judgment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced law firm environment.
  • CPA, MBA, advanced finance/accounting credential, or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • 8+ years of accounting, controller, or finance operations experience is preferred.
  • Prior experience in a law firm or legal services environment is preferred.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online, Stripe, Asana, law firm practice management software, or similar platforms is preferred.
  • Experience designing dashboards, centralized KPI and SKU reporting, balanced scorecards, and financial performance reports is preferred.
  • Experience supervising bookkeepers, billing specialists, payroll providers, and outsourced accounting vendors is preferred.
  • Experience with pricing analysis, SKU profitability, labor utilization, realization, collection rate analysis, and cost-of-acquisition reporting is preferred.
  • Experience supporting strategic planning, cash flow planning, debt repayment planning, and owner distribution planning is preferred.
