Description

  • Monitor breaking news and trending sports content and identify the most relevant stories with Supervising Editors.
  • Write breaking news articles, headlines, and captions that accurately summarize developing storylines.
  • Provide live coverage of games and key events across the sports calendar.
  • Produce push alert copy for breaking news, featured video, and featured analysis.
  • Curate news feeds with articles, video, and social media content from a variety of sources.
  • Pitch and execute feature stories tied to sports events and news items.
  • Deliver informative, engaging, and thoughtful feature content as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of major sports, including teams, players, stats, history, and economics.
  • Strong knowledge of modern digital journalism, social media, and the mobile landscape.
  • Previous experience as a news editor and/or writer in a post-secondary or professional newsroom setting is preferred.
  • A degree in journalism is preferred.
  • Ability to work under pressure and make immediate editorial judgments in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to write news, headlines, and feature content on deadline with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to be effective in a large environment.
  • Availability to work weekends and evenings.
