Description

  • Design core assemblies and components for advanced reactors from concept through final design.
  • Develop component designs that satisfy performance and manufacturing requirements.
  • Create and maintain design documentation, including drawings, product and material specifications, design basis documents, and calculation documents.
  • Conduct and participate in design reviews and exchange technical feedback.
  • Evaluate mechanical designs to identify deficiencies and propose and implement solutions.
  • Generate and maintain 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, and bills of materials in controlled PDM/PLM processes.
  • Coordinate with analysis teams to interpret thermal, structural, fatigue, and safety analyses for design validation.
  • Perform manufacturability reviews, tolerance studies, and DFM/DFA assessments to prepare parts for fabrication and assembly.
  • Collaborate with Oklo’s Fuel Fabrication team to improve manufacturability and inspectability.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of mechanical design processes, tools, standards, and best practices.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of industry experience in mechanical or structural design in aerospace, automotive, energy, or industrial equipment.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as Siemens NX, CATIA, or SolidWorks, including part modeling, large assemblies, and detailed drawings.
  • Experience with CAD version control using PDM/PLM tools such as Teamcenter, SolidWorks PDM, or Windchill.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, including DFM, DFA, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Ability to apply GD&T per ASME Y14.5-2018 or a similar standard to engineering drawings.
  • Working knowledge of material selection, especially metals, manufacturing methods, and fabrication techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate on cross-functional teams and incorporate feedback from analysis, manufacturing, and systems engineering.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document and present engineering work clearly.
  • Comfort working with external manufacturers and engineering consultants for fabrication and analysis support.
  • Background in designing components for high-integrity or safety-critical systems such as nuclear, aerospace, defense, or heavy industry is preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead hardware projects through the full development cycle from concept and design to testing and production is preferred.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and inspection processes is preferred.
  • Experience with precision machine design and tolerancing is preferred.
  • Understanding of thermal-mechanical analysis principles and experience designing for high-temperature environments is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of nuclear fission and radiation effects on materials and components is preferred.
  • Exposure to simulation tools such as ANSYS and scripting languages such as Python is a plus.
  • ASME GD&T Professional certification at the Senior or Technologist level is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Siemens NX CAD software is a plus.
