Description

  • Design, build, and maintain Python- and LLM-based data acquisition workflows for civic and public-sector datasets.
  • Integrate APIs and automate data parsing, transformation, validation, and ingestion processes.
  • Use SQL to investigate, validate, reconcile, and analyze data across multiple sources.
  • Own acquisition projects end-to-end from requirements and source evaluation through implementation, monitoring, and iteration.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to design systems for new data types and evolving organizational needs.
  • Identify and prioritize improvements to data quality, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Use AI-enabled tools and automation to accelerate development and reduce repetitive work where appropriate.
  • Document data sources, processes, and assumptions to support maintainability and knowledge sharing.
  • Provide technical leadership by mentoring teammates and helping drive shared technical decisions.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in technical or data-focused roles such as data acquisition, data engineering, or analytics engineering.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, including writing maintainable, well-documented code for data workflows.
  • Strong SQL skills, including complex querying for validation, reconciliation, and analysis.
  • Experience working with APIs and programmatic data ingestion.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage priorities, and deliver high-quality results with minimal oversight.
  • Experience documenting technical processes and explaining them clearly to others.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate on shared technical decisions within and across teams.
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
  • Experience working with civic, elections, or public-sector data is preferred.
  • Experience identifying and implementing improvements to existing data processes is preferred.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based data tools or infrastructure such as AWS is preferred.
  • Experience supporting production data pipelines or operational data systems is preferred.
  • Experience using AI-assisted tools to enhance development workflows is preferred.
  • Comfort working with semi-structured or unstructured data sources is preferred.
  • Experience contributing to multi-project or program-level initiatives is preferred.
