Description

  • Lead engineering execution by defining priorities, ownership, timelines, risks, dependencies, and quality expectations.
  • Manage, coach, and develop engineers and contractors, including performance support and team growth.
  • Contribute code, review technical work, evaluate tradeoffs, and maintain code quality and delivery momentum.
  • Translate product direction, AI strategy, user experience goals, and technical priorities into coordinated engineering plans.
  • Establish planning, review, release, and follow-through practices that improve predictability and reduce bottlenecks.
  • Maintain standards for testing, documentation, reliability, security awareness, maintainability, and release readiness.
  • Partner with product, design, enterprise-facing teams, and technical leadership on privacy, quality, user experience, and enterprise readiness.
  • Lead hiring, onboarding, and resource planning as the engineering team grows.
  • Help scale Thunderbolt from incubation into a reliable, enterprise-ready open-source AI product.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of professional software development experience, including significant senior engineering leadership or complex product delivery experience.
  • 5+ years managing technical teams, including senior engineers or senior individual contributors.
  • Track record of leading teams that shipped polished, high-quality products.
  • Ability to turn ambiguous product and technical direction into clear plans, ownership models, and delivery momentum.
  • Technical fluency with AI-enabled products, including LLM applications, RAG, agents, enterprise search, automation, on-device AI, or AI evaluation.
  • Experience delivering complex applications across desktop, web, and mobile using Tauri, Electron, React Native, or comparable frameworks.
  • Experience with enterprise, regulated, security-conscious, or privacy-focused products and customer-controlled deployment models.
  • Experience with local-first, offline-capable, self-hosted, hybrid, on-premise, air-gapped, or similar architectures.
  • Experience improving planning, code review, release readiness, testing, documentation, CI/CD, maintainability, or technical debt management.
  • Strong technical communication skills; open-source experience, compliance knowledge, or zero-to-one product experience are preferred.
