Description

  • Continuously monitor online spaces relevant to targeted violence to identify threats toward public officials, vulnerable communities, and critical infrastructure.
  • Analyze open-source and in-house data from social media, violent extremist materials, and related sources.
  • Draft weekly intelligence reports and flash bulletins with evidence-based analysis and assessments.
  • Maintain databases and conduct regular reviews of social media and messaging platforms for project inclusion.
  • Design quantitative and qualitative research methods to collect and analyze large datasets.
  • Research and write deep-dive analyses on trends and themes in online extremist ecosystems.
  • Work to demanding, high-tempo reporting schedules and deliver insights to client timelines.
  • Present findings verbally to clients and tailor briefings to their strategic needs.
  • Identify delivery risks, troubleshoot issues, and improve project processes.
  • Build client relationships and support business development by identifying new project opportunities.

Requirements

  • Intermediate-to-advanced quantitative skills or qualifications in quantitative methods for social science.
  • Experience with data visualization and analysis tools such as Python, Tableau, and/or Kibana.
  • Python experience analyzing large datasets is a distinct advantage.
  • Professional experience using open-source research and OSINT methods for analysis and investigation.
  • Strong analytical writing skills with the ability to distinguish evidence from assessment.
  • Comfort working with content depicting violence and harassment.
  • Ability to problem-solve, troubleshoot, and develop innovative solutions to complex research issues.
  • Ability to scan large volumes of data and identify the most valuable information quickly.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under strict timelines and manage workload independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Relevant experience in countering violent extremism, targeted violence, or other online harms is desirable.
  • Familiarity with threat assessment frameworks is desirable.
  • Background in political violence, security studies, or a related field is desirable.
  • Understanding of different ideological threat landscapes is desirable.
  • Experience with social listening tools is desirable.
  • Fluency in a language other than English, particularly Arabic, is desirable.
  • Preference for candidates based in DC, Atlanta, or Denver.
