Description

  • Monitor and initiate claim appeals on insurance claims and pending receivables after final bill.
  • Prepare and submit appeal letters to insurance carriers, collecting and attaching necessary documentation.
  • Analyze payer denial and reason codes and resolve claim denials or correct claims for resubmission.
  • Verify patient eligibility and resolve related insurance problems.
  • Contact customers to verify insurance information and contact insurance companies to resolve payment issues.
  • Identify payor trends and areas for improvement within the billing department and implement resolutions.
  • Work to decrease A/R days to industry standards and assist with monthly close functions.
  • Meet department productivity and quality goals and achieve individual and team targets with minimal errors.
  • Uphold Medicare, Medicaid, HIPAA, confidentiality, and cybersecurity compliance guidelines in billing and collections.
  • Participate in staff meetings and educational activities and maintain strict confidentiality of PHI.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 3+ years of insurance billing and collection experience.
  • Knowledge of business office procedures and paper and electronic claim requirements.
  • Expert knowledge of insurance and reimbursement processes and familiarity with payer adjudication.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA privacy requirements and experience protecting confidential patient information.
  • Understanding of medical ICD-9 and CPT billing codes.
  • Proficient with computers and common office equipment, with good data entry/typing and math skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and good telephone/patient relation skills.
  • Detail-oriented, able to prioritize work, exercise good judgment, and work with minimal direction.
  • Flexible to work overtime as necessary.
