Description

  • Own the backend architecture and technical direction for Midnite’s free-to-play games suite.
  • Design and build server-authoritative systems for outcome evaluation, rewards, configuration, and analytics.
  • Construct and maintain APIs that support game functionality and player experiences.
  • Write clean, efficient, well-documented production code that is scalable and maintainable.
  • Establish and uphold backend standards in a regulated, high-trust environment.
  • Define robust client-server systems in partnership with the Lead Game Developer.
  • Work closely with product and games stakeholders to shape game mechanics and reward models.
  • Balance player experience, fairness, integrity, and risk when designing systems.
  • Ensure backend systems align with core platform and compliance requirements as games integrate into the wider ecosystem.
  • Mentor and lead other developers as the team scales, helping develop team ways of working.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of backend engineering experience in production environments.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, or another backend language with enthusiasm to work in Python.
  • Experience designing and maintaining scalable RESTful APIs.
  • Strong experience with databases such as PostgreSQL.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms, with AWS preferred, in live systems.
  • Understanding of distributed systems, performance, and scalability challenges.
  • Ability to write clean, well-tested, maintainable code.
  • Comfort working in high-ownership, fast-moving teams and communicating clearly across functions.
  • Bonus: experience in gaming, betting, fintech, or other regulated/high-trust industries.
  • Bonus: experience with high-volume, low-latency systems and CI/CD environments.
