Description

  • Design and deliver participant-centered language instruction that develops functional proficiency from ILR 0 through ILR 3+.
  • Plan instruction using measurable proficiency objectives mapped to ILR levels.
  • Create real-world, cross-cultural learning experiences across listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Build psychologically safe, high-expectation learning environments for adult professionals.
  • Follow government-supplied lesson plans, syllabi, and learning materials aligned to program goals.
  • Adapt authentic, copyright-free materials such as news, professional documents, audio, and video for instructional use.
  • Integrate virtual learning technology effectively, including shared documents and digital resources.
  • Support placement, progress checks, and readiness activities using ILR-aligned performance tasks.
  • Incorporate current geopolitical, technical, and mission-relevant content into instruction for ILR 2+ scholars.
  • Assign homework, grade assignments, and provide written and oral feedback tied to ILR indicators.
  • Maintain reliable scheduling, timely communication, and required session documentation.
  • Ensure scholars receive timely access information for virtual sessions and uphold confidentiality and professional conduct.
  • Attend required professional development sessions and contribute to instructional quality improvements.

Requirements

  • ILR Advanced Professional Proficiency or ACTFL Superior in speaking and writing for each language and dialect instructed.
  • Ability to deliver instruction and conduct assessments across ILR Level 0 through ILR Level 3+.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching target language(s) to adult learners virtually.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply ILR proficiency descriptors for both instruction and assessment.
  • Experience delivering synchronous instruction via Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Cisco Webex, Slack, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to troubleshoot live session issues, including audio, video, and connectivity challenges.
  • Ability to guide learners in configuring language input tools such as keyboards, fonts, and character sets.
  • Ability to adjust platform settings for low-bandwidth environments, including video, bandwidth, and screen sharing.
  • Experience tailoring lesson plans with cultural, technical, and military context relevant to the target language and region.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the relevant cultures and ability to integrate cultural context into instruction.
  • Experience performing assessments ranging from ILR 0 through ILR 3+.
  • Government, military, foreign affairs, or professional language program experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in language instruction or a related social science field, or at least five years of embedded experience in the target culture.
  • Training or certifications in foreign language methodology, andragogy, instructional design, and assessment preferred.
  • DLPT, OPI, ACTFL, or equivalent certifications preferred.
