Description

  • Perform remote DBA work for customers around the world.
  • Monitor databases and customer systems, and recommend improvements to performance and durability.
  • Automate recurring DBA tasks and help build tools and enhancements around MariaDB.
  • Set up monitoring, run periodic health checks, and produce reports on customer systems.
  • Perform upgrades, configure and monitor backups, and assist with recoveries.
  • Troubleshoot issues, fix problems when they occur, and support customer SLAs.
  • Help design new architectures and apply best practices for the Remote DBA team.
  • Manage SkySQL customers across cloud environments.
  • Participate in community outreach through blogging and social media.
  • Provide on-call coverage and work scheduled shifts that include weekends and holidays as needed.

Requirements

  • Experience with MariaDB/MySQL and related tools.
  • Knowledge of SQL query writing and optimization.
  • Knowledge of database design, administration, development, or architecture.
  • Understanding of high availability environments and technologies.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Comfort working remotely and working autonomously.
  • Passion for serving customers and solving technical problems.
  • Experience with columnar database platforms.
  • Experience with database proxying technology.
  • Experience in a 24x7 support environment (preferred).
  • Proficiency with backup utilities such as mydumper, MariaDB Backup, Xtrabackup, or mysqldump (preferred).
  • Prior support engineer experience with MariaDB, Percona, or MySQL (preferred).
  • Proficiency in one or more scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Go (preferred).
  • Sysadmin experience with Linux or Windows (preferred).
  • Working knowledge of other database systems such as Oracle, MS SQL Server, Postgres, RDS/Aurora, or MongoDB (preferred).
  • Experience with open source contributions in the MariaDB/MySQL ecosystem (preferred).
  • Experience with MariaDB products such as MaxScale, ColumnStore, Cluster/Galera, or Clustrix (preferred).
  • Experience with virtualization software such as Xen, VirtualBox, or VMware (preferred).
  • Experience with cloud offerings, automation toolsets, containers, or MariaDB/MySQL monitoring software (preferred).
  • MariaDB and/or MySQL certifications (preferred).
  • Ability to travel internationally for company-related meetings.
  • Ability to work a Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday shift, with weekend coverage as needed.
