Description

  • Lead and grow the Maps & Search engineering team through hiring, onboarding, coaching, 1:1s, feedback, and career development.
  • Stay hands-on with code reviews, design reviews, architecture decisions, and debugging.
  • Own the architecture, relevance, latency, and reliability of a high-throughput search platform.
  • Improve the core home discovery experience across web and mobile to increase engagement, lead conversion, and agent workflows.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered discovery, including LLMs and intelligent ranking.
  • Work with product and design to define what to build and why, then own end-to-end delivery.
  • Drive planning, quality, reliability, and incident response for the team’s work.
  • Translate user needs and business goals into technical plans and execution.
  • Support a healthy, high-performing team that ships impactful changes.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including meaningful senior or staff-level experience.
  • 2+ years of experience managing engineering teams.
  • Experience with search, relevance, ranking, or retrieval systems.
  • Deep expertise in TypeScript, Node.js, and React.
  • Experience designing and operating scalable microservice architectures in cloud-native environments, with AWS preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GraphQL, Kafka, PostgreSQL, and OpenSearch.
  • Proven experience operating high-traffic, low-latency production systems, including SLOs, incident response, and capacity planning.
  • Experience leading high-impact initiatives from concept through production in a SaaS environment.
  • Ability to communicate complex tradeoffs clearly to product, design, and executive stakeholders.
  • Experience using AI as part of the daily engineering workflow is strongly preferred.
