Description

  • Own and evolve core freight brokerage systems, including quoting, booking, pricing, contracts, carrier compliance, facility matching, and scheduling workflows.
  • Lead technical initiatives across multiple Python/Django services, from design and phased rollout to safe deprecation.
  • Improve platform reliability through database and dependency upgrades, search and indexing changes, performance tuning, and deployment-safety tooling.
  • Ship product and revenue-critical work such as pricing integrations, compliance and load-registration flows, and feature-flag and segmentation strategies.
  • Define and promote engineering standards, including ADRs, shared integration layers, test patterns, observability practices, and code review culture.
  • Operate production systems by handling incident response, war-room coordination, root-cause analysis, and rapid stabilization fixes.
  • Collaborate closely with product on discovery, requirements, scope definition, and stakeholder communication.
  • Mentor teammates through pairing, design reviews, and informal technical leadership.
  • Partner across API and UI boundaries to create consistent shared patterns and implementations.

Requirements

  • Senior back-end engineering experience delivering ambiguous, multi-step projects end to end across design, implementation, rollout, and observability.
  • Strong Python and Django experience, or deep transferable experience such as substantial production Python web work after long professional work in Java/JVM ecosystems.
  • Strong PostgreSQL expertise, including schema design, production migrations, query plans, indexing, and latency/regression troubleshooting.
  • Experience with distributed systems and multi-service environments, including async jobs/queues, events, idempotency, and integration failures.
  • Experience working in large or evolving codebases, including modernization, framework/DB/search/runtime upgrades, or cost/performance improvements with measurable outcomes.
  • Production and on-call experience, including incident response and stability-focused decision-making under operational load.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership through migrations, integrations, architecture decisions, mentoring, and cross-team alignment.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for design docs, ADRs, RFCs, review threads, and stakeholder discussions.
  • Experience with backend work that spans both API and UI concerns is strongly valued.
  • Experience leading technical work at a tech-lead level on business-critical systems is preferred.
