Description

  • Ensure systems built for new initiatives are well designed, scalable, and maintainable.
  • Analyze existing systems and infrastructure to identify architectural improvements, reduce duplication, and increase performance and robustness.
  • Identify recurring patterns that lead to incidents or operational overhead and develop remediation plans.
  • Drive improvements in system reliability and performance, including incident management practices.
  • Improve development practices across design reviews, testing, deployment, and incident response.
  • Conduct architectural deep-dives and provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers across services teams.
  • Promote best practices and uplevel engineering craft to empower teams to build toward a sustainable architecture.
  • Contribute to organizational objectives beyond strict role boundaries and help develop a high-performance engineering culture in the Retail organization.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of professional software development experience.
  • 5+ years of experience as a technical leader responsible for multiple teams.
  • 2+ years managing architecture across multiple teams totaling 35+ engineers.
  • Proven history of developing business-critical systems at scale and running services on the cloud.
  • Track record of delivering key business outcomes under challenging timelines.
  • Experience with more than one technology stack (examples: Go, PHP, Java, Ruby on Rails, Python).
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills and ability to convey ideas concisely.
  • Ability to moderate technical conversations, handle diverse opinions, and make timely decisions.
  • Located in Canada and able to work within EST/EDT hours (remote, hybrid, or office-based options available).
  • (Nice to have) Expertise in distributed systems and multi-region cloud architectures, domain-driven design, retail/ecommerce domain experience, and prior people management responsibilities.

  • Total compensation for Ontario hires reasonably expected to be in the range of $210,000 - $235,000 CAD.
