Description

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the facility Radiation Protection Program, including ALARA, dosimetry, and radiological work permit systems.
  • Establish radiological postings, access controls, and contamination control zones for HALEU material handling operations.
  • Oversee airborne, surface contamination, and dose-rate survey programs across fabrication and storage areas.
  • Manage external and internal dosimetry, bioassay, and dose recordkeeping for personnel and visitors.
  • Select, calibrate, and maintain radiation detection instrumentation, portal monitors, and continuous air monitors.
  • Lead radiological training and qualification for operations, maintenance, and engineering personnel, including RadCon technician training.
  • Coordinate radioactive waste characterization, packaging, and shipment in support of waste management and Part 71 requirements.
  • Investigate radiological events, perform causal analysis, and track corrective actions.
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact with the NRC on radiation protection matters and inspections.
  • Partner with facility leadership on integrated safety basis reviews for new or modified processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Radiological Sciences, or a related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of radiation protection experience at an NRC- or DOE-licensed facility handling special nuclear material.
  • At least 3 years of lead or supervisory experience.
  • Working knowledge of 10 CFR Part 20 and ALARA program implementation.
  • Hands-on experience with radiological surveys, instrumentation calibration, and contamination control in an SNM handling environment.
  • Experience managing dosimetry and bioassay programs, including recordkeeping and reporting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including procedure development and regulator interface experience.
  • Certified Health Physicist (CHP) certification or active pursuit of certification (preferred).
  • Experience with uranium metal/alloy processing and enriched uranium in metallic form (preferred).
  • Experience with HALEU radiological considerations and criticality safety interfaces (preferred).
  • Prior involvement in facility startup, licensing, or readiness review activities (preferred).
