Description

  • Review inpatient medical record documentation to ensure accurate and complete coding.
  • Validate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes, including principal and secondary diagnoses.
  • Assess code assignment appropriateness to support DRG reimbursement, consistency, efficiency, and data quality.
  • Review physician documentation for specificity, completeness, and coding support, and identify query opportunities.
  • Maintain current knowledge of coding and regulatory standards from agencies such as CMS, OIG, AHA, and Coding Clinics.
  • Maintain required coding credentials.
  • Meet departmental productivity and quality expectations.
  • Consult with client organizations and department heads as directed by leadership.
  • Collaborate with other service line team members to address client needs and support service line growth and operational improvement.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience coding inpatient claims.
  • CCS credential required.
  • Experience with Medicare and Medicaid DRGs.
  • Experience with DRG validation.
  • Experience with outpatient coding is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of official coding rules, guidelines, and conventions.
  • Experience using EHR systems such as Cerner, Epic, or Meditech, plus DRG grouping software.
  • Computer proficiency with MS Office and in-house proprietary software.
  • Knowledge of hospital/healthcare operations, including revenue cycle, coding, and reimbursement.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS required.
  • ICD-10-CM/PCS AHIMA Approved Trainer experience is highly desired.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with senior management.
  • Detail-oriented and able to meet targeted deadlines.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in a related field preferred; Associate degree in Health Information Technology is minimally acceptable.
  • RHIA or RHIT is a plus.
