Description

  • Develop robust algorithms and production-ready solutions in Natural Language Processing, large language models, foundation models, and related ML/AI methods.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate methods to understand textual and multimodal (text+image/video) content and to perform reasoning on extracted data.
  • Apply and adapt LLMs and multimodal models to domain-specific tasks such as information extraction, decision-making, reasoning, and disinformation mitigation.
  • Collaborate with customers, government partners, and academic collaborators and participate in customer site visits, live field tests, and demonstrations.
  • Contribute to and integrate work with open-source software platforms (e.g., VIAME, Telesculptor) and Kitware R&D projects.
  • Publish and present novel research at national and international conferences and workshops, and pursue external funding to grow research areas as desired.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to transition research into practical tools and prototypes for real-world problems.

Requirements

  • PhD in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Strong publication history in NLP or AI conferences (e.g., ACL, EMNLP, NAACL, AAAI, ICML, ICLR, NeurIPS); include a detailed publication list with your CV.
  • Experience with natural language text generation, foundation models, and large language models (examples: GPT, Claude, BERT, or similar).
  • Proven track record of innovation and solving difficult technical challenges in NLP/AI research.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating effectively in fast-paced, dynamic research and development environments.
  • U.S. citizenship required; willingness and ability to apply for, obtain, use, and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance if not already cleared.
  • Preferred: experience with multiple large multimodal AI models spanning image, text, and speech modalities.
  • Preferred: prior work adapting NLP/LLMs to domain-specific applications including decision-making, reasoning, and inference.
  • Role is remote but limited to candidates located in specified U.S. states (AL, AZ, CO, DC, FL, GA, IL, IN, MA, MD, ME, MN, NC, NM, NY, OH, OR, PA, TN, TX, UT, VA, WI).
