Description

  • Own the company roadmap for production automation across hardware and control layers while partnering with mechanical, electrical, and production engineers.
  • Conceive, design, and develop production tooling and electromechanical automation assemblies, both in-house and with vendors.
  • Lead hands-on buildout, activation, and qualification of automation and controls projects across the production line.
  • Shape the company’s HMI strategy and PLC automation to make machines easy to operate and repeatable.
  • Apply build flow, production reliability, and process control knowledge to improve production takt rate and first pass yield.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers while raising the technical bar across the team.
  • Help define standards, requirements, and design processes for how automation projects are executed at K2.
  • Contribute to scaling satellite manufacturing toward higher-rate production in a vertically integrated environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, aerospace, materials, or another relevant engineering discipline.
  • 4+ years of experience in a high-volume manufacturing, production, or hands-on engineering environment.
  • 6+ years of experience in industrial automation and controls in a production environment, including full-stack ownership.
  • Strong hands-on aptitude and willingness to work directly with hardware on the production floor.
  • In-depth knowledge of precision assembly and electromechanical fabrication processes.
  • Ability to generate and review engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Experience setting up a manufacturing or production floor for first article builds through rate production.
  • Full-stack experience with industrial automation hardware and controls, PLC/HMI/robotics software control stacks, and electrical and fluid schematics preferred.
  • Exposure to space, defense, or other high-reliability manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Experience designing automation systems for manufacturability preferred.
  • Experience developing production processes from the ground up and driving manufacturing design improvements preferred.
  • Experience working closely with technicians and build tooling preferred.
  • Familiarity with CAD software such as NX or equivalent, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) preferred.
  • Must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for a federally issued export control license due to ITAR requirements.
