Description

  • Design the high‑level and detailed Databricks lakehouse architecture, including medallion patterns (Bronze/Silver/Gold), semantic layers, and Delta Lake storage patterns.
  • Develop a multi‑cloud ingestion and consolidation strategy for data from AWS (S3, RDS, DynamoDB), Azure (SQL MI, Storage Accounts), GCP, and on‑prem systems, covering streaming and batch pipelines.
  • Define patterns and standards for data lineage, metadata management, data quality, CDC/SCD, federated queries, and pipeline orchestration.
  • Establish and operationalize an enterprise data governance model covering classification schemas, residency rules, cataloging (Unity Catalog), retention, security standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with distributed data engineering teams to implement pipelines, perform code reviews, provide architectural guidance, and ensure consistent implementation across tenants, clouds, and products.
  • Partner with DevOps/Platform teams on infrastructure, identity, networking (VPC/VNet), CI/CD, monitoring, observability, and operational runbooks.
  • Define and enforce RBAC/ABAC, encryption, audit logging, tenant isolation, archival/DR, and cross‑region protections in coordination with security and compliance teams.
  • Architect support for analytics and BI (Power BI, Databricks SQL), semantic modeling, GIS workflows, and AI/ML use cases (predictive models, geospatial analytics, LLM insights).
  • Act as a technical leader and mentor, translate business requirements into technical solutions, participate in vendor evaluations, roadmap planning, and architectural governance boards.

Requirements

  • 8+ years in data architecture, data engineering, or platform architecture, with at least 3 years in a senior or lead role.
  • Deep expertise with Databricks (Azure preferred), including Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, SQL Warehouses, lakehouse design, and pipeline orchestration.
  • Proven experience building multi‑cloud or hybrid data architectures across AWS, Azure, and GCP.
  • Expertise in medallion architecture, metadata management, lineage, data quality, and enterprise governance.
  • Advanced SQL plus experience with one or more: Python, Scala, PySpark, Spark SQL.
  • Experience with CDC and SCD Type 1/2, streaming ingestion, batch pipelines, and workload performance optimization.
  • Strong understanding of security, compliance, RBAC/ABAC, encryption, data residency, and regulatory frameworks (GDPR, PIPEDA, Australian Privacy Act, SOC 2).
  • Experience working in highly regulated or multi‑tenant data environments and translating complex technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
  • Preferred: Unity Catalog–Purview integration, geospatial data experience, operational risk modeling or AI/ML enablement, Power BI semantic modeling, and relevant certifications (Databricks Data Engineer Professional, Databricks Architect, Azure Data Architect, AWS/GCP data certifications).
  • Strong documentation, diagramming, and communication skills for architectural reviews and runbooks.
