Description

  • Lead frontend architecture and product execution for Portal, Instacart’s central hub for data.
  • Build and extend user-facing tools that help teams discover, understand, and trust data.
  • Contribute across the stack as needed, including Python services, APIs, data models, and pipelines.
  • Partner with data scientists, data engineers, analysts, product engineers, and infrastructure teams to translate pain points into self-serve solutions.
  • Own high-impact user-facing surfaces used across the company.
  • Mentor teammates and promote engineering excellence, especially in frontend craft, performance, and UX quality.
  • Suggest and drive new initiatives for how Portal evolves as Instacart’s unified data home base.
  • Work on Portal improvements including the homepage/dashboard redesign and deeper integration with the data infrastructure ecosystem.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of working experience in a similar field or environment.
  • Strong frontend expertise with deep experience in React and TypeScript.
  • Track record of shipping polished, performant product UI in a large codebase.
  • Comfort working fullstack and extending backend services in Python as needed.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL.
  • Familiarity with common data infrastructure technologies such as Python, Airflow, Snowflake, and dbt in a production environment.
  • Experience working in a large codebase on a cross-functional team.
  • Ability to balance urgency with high-quality, pragmatic delivery.
  • Product mindset with focus on user experience, not just the underlying systems.
  • Experience building internal developer tools, data tools, or other tools for technical users preferred.
  • Familiarity with data catalog, lineage, or metadata systems such as Amundsen, DataHub, or OpenMetadata preferred.
  • Experience leading frontend architecture decisions or design system work preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent work experience preferred.

  • Base salary ranges from $192,000 to $242,500 USD depending on location.
