Description

  • Design and build end-to-end machine learning solutions.
  • Work in small, cross-functional product teams with ownership of projects.
  • Collaborate with economists, data scientists, operations research scientists, and machine learning engineers to share learnings and best practices.
  • Develop high-impact solutions that support Instacart's growth plans.
  • Work with engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders from problem understanding through solution recommendation and controlled testing.
  • Own a large part of the process, including testing solutions in controlled experiments.
  • Suggest and drive organization-wide initiatives.

Requirements

  • Current or recently graduated PhD student in economics or a related field with a focus on data-intensive problems.
  • Background combining economic theory, applied econometrics, and business acumen.
  • Experience with causal inference using observational and experimental data.
  • Proficiency in Python or R.
  • Fluency with data manipulation tools such as SQL and Pandas.
  • Experience with machine learning tools such as scikit-learn, XGBoost, or Keras/TensorFlow.
  • Relevant research experience, typically in computationally intensive empirical topics.
  • Exposure to machine learning coursework and applications.
  • Self-motivation and a strong sense of ownership.
