Description

  • Own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Core DE and CoreX/Incentives DE to deliver high-quality batch and streaming pipelines, trusted datasets, and scalable data models.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of 7 data engineers, including hiring, setting clear goals, establishing accountability, and creating growth opportunities.
  • Define and enforce engineering excellence standards for data modeling, testing, data quality, documentation, observability, SLAs, and cost/performance optimization.
  • Partner with Data Science & Analytics, Machine Learning, Product, and Software Engineering to establish data contracts and deliver well-documented, versioned, and discoverable datasets.
  • Drive centralization of data engineering by creating and iterating on intake and engagement models, migrating pipelines from product teams when appropriate, and measuring impact via OKRs.
  • Ensure governance and reliability through incident response, root cause analysis, prevention plans, and adherence to privacy, security, and compliance standards.
  • Communicate status, risks, and tradeoffs clearly to stakeholders and leadership to foster alignment and predictable delivery.
  • Own operational responsibilities for production-grade pipelines and platform reliability, including monitoring, incident management, and cost/performance tradeoffs.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering building and operating production-grade data pipelines and platforms.
  • 2+ years of direct people management experience for data engineering teams, including hiring, performance management, and career development.
  • Proficiency in SQL and at least one data engineering language such as Python or Scala.
  • Hands-on experience with distributed processing and streaming technologies (e.g., Spark, Kafka, or Flink).
  • Experience with modern cloud data warehouses and lakehouse architectures (e.g., BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks, or Redshift).
  • Experience orchestrating pipelines with tools such as Airflow, Dagster, or similar.
  • Strong background in data modeling (dimensional and normalized), data quality frameworks, and automated testing.
  • Proven success partnering cross-functionally with Product, Data Science, and Software Engineering to deliver end-to-end data solutions against SLAs/OKRs.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Preferred: experience in e-commerce/marketplace environments; domain experience with incentives/promotions/pricing/experimentation; experience with governance and lineage tooling (e.g., dbt, Great Expectations, Monte Carlo, DataHub, Amundsen); familiarity with ML feature engineering and feature stores; experience optimizing systems for cost, performance, and reliability at scale; experience leading distributed/remote teams; advanced degree a plus.

Benefits

  • Market-competitive compensation and benefits with base pay ranges that vary by US location (examples: CA/NY/CT/NJ $220,000–$232,000; WA $211,000–$222,500; OR/DE/ME/MA/MD/NH/RI/VT/DC/PA/VA/CO/TX/IL/HI $202,000–$213,000; all other states $183,000–$193,000).
  • Eligible for a new hire equity grant and annual refresh equity grants.
  • Flexible, remote-first (Flex First) work policy with option to work from San Francisco, CA.
