Description

  • Lead the UX/UI design process from concept through implementation.
  • Own project-level design work and account for how it affects related deliverables.
  • Collaborate with editorial teams, developers, project managers, and other stakeholders to gather requirements and align on vision.
  • Work with clients to manage expectations and support client satisfaction throughout the project.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, user flows, and high-fidelity mockups to communicate design concepts.
  • Conduct user research, usability testing, and analyze feedback to inform design decisions.
  • Design responsive, accessible interfaces that work across devices and platforms.
  • Develop a consistent design language and style guide across all digital touchpoints.
  • Partner with engineering to ensure designs are technically feasible and implemented as intended.
  • Present design concepts and rationale to clients and internal teams, tying decisions to business goals.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of proven UX/UI design experience, with a portfolio of editorial, publishing, or media-related projects.
  • Strong UI design skills with the ability to create intuitive and visually appealing interfaces.
  • Experience with design systems, reusable UI components, and pattern libraries.
  • Experience designing responsive interfaces for multiple screen sizes and devices.
  • Proficiency with wireframing and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD.
  • Strong typography, layout, and composition skills, especially for editorial design.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a high standard for design quality.
  • Understanding of MVP thinking, phased enhancements, and prioritizing features based on user impact and delivery constraints.
  • Ability to design modular, scalable, and maintainable UI components.
  • Familiarity with WordPress or other CMS platforms, including WordPress blocks and patterns.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards, including WCAG.
  • Understanding of motion design principles and micro-interactions.
  • Advanced proficiency with Figma, Sketch, or Adobe Creative Suite tools such as Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Familiarity with front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Experience conducting user research, usability testing, and data analysis.
  • Experience developing and maintaining design systems and style guides.
  • Proven experience leading design projects and collaborating with development teams.
  • Experience working iteratively in an agile environment with short feedback loops.
  • Upper intermediate English (B2) and Japanese (JLPT N2).
  • Experience designing for financial or institutional clients.
  • Bilingual layout experience across English and Japanese typography.
  • WCAG 2.2 AA+ accessibility compliance experience.
  • Experience with WordPress Full Site Editing and block-based design systems.
  • Ability to work with evolving brand guidelines.
  • Willingness to work in JST time zone for a client based in Japan.
  • Project launch timing of October 31st 2026.
