Description

  • Act as the technical leader and architect for backend systems that power upgrades, trials, and ROI experiences.
  • Design and evolve scalable, resilient architectures that integrate with complex Fintech, pricing, and packaging systems.
  • Remain deeply hands-on in code, design, and reviews while setting a high bar for quality and execution.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of ~2–4 backend engineers, guiding them through ambiguous problem spaces into clear, actionable solutions.
  • Partner closely with Product, Design, Data, and Fintech teams to deliver cohesive, customer-centric experiences.
  • Drive alignment across teams and systems and identify leverage points that unlock outsized impact.
  • Balance short-term delivery needs with long-term platform health and technical strategy.
  • Influence technical direction beyond the immediate team and raise the bar for technical excellence across the organization.

Requirements

  • Proven track record of delivering high-impact, cross-team technical initiatives at scale.
  • Comfortable working in high-ambiguity domains, especially where product, pricing, and financial systems intersect.
  • Ability to understand complex system landscapes and distill them into simple, scalable architectures.
  • Willingness to stay deeply hands-on while providing technical direction, mentorship, and influence beyond the team.
  • Pragmatic decision-making with a bias toward solving problems through technology rather than process.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and a willingness to learn and apply new technologies to complex problems.
  • Experience or familiarity with technologies such as Java, Kafka, GraphQL, distributed data stores, and service-oriented architectures (experience in each is not required).
  • Experience leading or coaching small engineering teams (player-coach expectations).
  • Willing/able to attend a regional HubSpot office for in-person onboarding (Engineering hires) and participate in occasional in-person Product group events.

Benefits

  • Annual cash compensation range: $238,800 — $382,100 USD.
  • Eligibility for annual bonus targets and on-target commission for eligible roles; some roles may be eligible for restricted stock units (RSUs).
  • Individual compensation packages are tailored to skills, experience, and qualifications; some roles may be eligible for overtime pay.
  • Flexible/hybrid work approach (Remote or Office) with required in-person onboarding and periodic in-person events for Product/Engineering teams.
