Description

  • Design and implement solutions for Honeycomb’s query and data storage infrastructure, including query performance, the Retriever service, and storage reliability.
  • Break down complex storage and querying problems, define trade-offs, and deliver projects from design through production support.
  • Collaborate with Product Management and engineering teams to connect technical solutions with product needs.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, define team KPIs and SLOs, and proactively reduce operational toil.
  • Investigate new technologies, storage techniques, and query optimization strategies for systems operating at scale.
  • Pair with teammates, review code, provide constructive feedback, and mentor engineers.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex production issues across the technology stack.
  • Drive foundational initiatives and share knowledge across the broader engineering organization.

Requirements

  • Experience providing technical leadership in storage and querying systems.
  • Strong Go programming experience.
  • Experience designing and operating high-throughput or complex systems.
  • Ability to scope and deliver complex, multi-team projects independently.
  • Expertise debugging and resolving difficult production issues.
  • Experience mentoring engineers through code reviews and knowledge sharing.
  • Ability to connect technical decisions to customer and business outcomes.
  • Experience with database engineering is preferred.
  • Comfort working with Kubernetes is preferred.
  • Eligibility to work without current visa sponsorship or transfer support.
