Description

  • Own end-to-end thermal and thermo-mechanical simulation for drone products and major subassemblies using FEM and CFD tools.
  • Define thermal loads, boundary conditions, and material properties for simulation models.
  • Apply model order reduction methods to build accurate and computationally efficient thermal models.
  • Conduct static and transient thermal analyses, including model correlation and heat path optimisation.
  • Validate simulation models against physical test data and refine them based on test results.
  • Plan and execute thermal validation tests across development milestones.
  • Translate analysis results into clear, actionable design and material selection recommendations.
  • Produce comprehensive design reports and sensitivity studies that support optimal thermal solutions and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Experience building and validating FEM and CFD thermal models for aerospace or similarly demanding thermo-mechanical applications.
  • Experience with tools such as StarCCM+ or equivalent.
  • Ability to analytically assess thermal challenges using material properties, fluid characteristics, and test standards.
  • Proficiency in CAD-based model preparation and structural simplification for thermal and CFD workflows.
  • Fluency with calculation tools such as Matlab/Simulink for thermal assessments and sensitivity studies.
  • Ability to communicate complex thermal findings clearly in written English and produce high-quality engineering documentation.
  • Ability to act decisively with minimal guidance, own outcomes end-to-end, and initiate solutions independently.
  • Experience within drone or UAV thermal programmes, including test campaign planning, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with model order reduction techniques applied to thermo-mechanical or fluid dynamics problems is preferred.
